Learning to Surrender

What does it mean to surrender to Jesus?

How do I surrender to Jesus?

Surrender + Jesus

Surrender is a tough word, isn't it? A stumbling block for many.
Peace and freedom for others.

sur·ren·der  -Verb

  •   to yield (something) to the possession or power of another,
  •   to give (oneself) up to some influence,
  •   to yield or resign (a position, privilege, etc.) in favor of another,
  •   to give up or relinquish (control).

Who holds possession of your heart my friends? Whose influence leads your life? Who holds the position and privilege of directing your steps? Do YOU strive and scheme to control the outcome of your life?

Or do you trust JESUS?

Do you allow Jesus to lead you? Do you allow His Word to influence your thoughts and decisions? Do you let His Spirit rule and reign in your heart? Do you say, as Jesus said to his Father in heaven, "...not my will, but yours be done..." (Luke 22:42) ? A humble obedience.

That is the essence of surrender.

Let's learn together to be able to say.... We trust our savior to lead our lives, to influence our thoughts, to control our choices... because we know:

He is always good,
His Words are always true,
and His way leads to life.

To surrender to Jesus means, first, to read His Word, the Bible. To know that His Word is true, and to apply His Word to our lives through a humble obedience. To surrender to Jesus means that we listen to His still, small voice as He directs us and corrects us. We allow Him to change the thoughts and opinions of our own minds and hearts as He reveals His truth to us.

We believe Him.
We trust Him.
We follow Him.

To surrender to Jesus means our soul is at rest. Our striving has ceased. Our joy is full. Our hearts are refreshed. Our lives are transformed. We are showered with grace, and made complete.

Now doesn't that sound sweet?
"Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." Deuteronomy 6:5
