Je n' parle pas francais

When I was in high school I was required to take a foreign language course. I thought it would be neat to learn Spanish because I have some Spanish speaking family members and it is a rather commonly used language in California where I was going to school. But the class was full and I was unable to register for it. So I ended up in French. I was disappointed. I struggled my way through french for two years and found no delight in learning it. A few nights ago my children and I were talking about foreign languages and I shared with them the only phrase I could remember from my two years of study.... Je n' parle pas francais... "I don't speak french." I had retained so little because I found no joy in it. On the other hand my children began laughing at the joy they had found in speaking 'pig latin' to one another a few years ago. They found so much delight and laughter in conversing in such a silly way and they got to be quite good at it. They would hold entire conversations with each other in 'pig latin' and thoroughly confuse their momma. They began to converse again and found that the "language" had not escaped their memory. They still found delight in it. I however, found frustration in 'pig latin' and could never seem to decipher it. What a difference delight can make in our understanding and retention of a language!

Blessed is the man whose... "delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night." Psalm 1:2

The law of the Lord, His Word, is the language of God. It is God's Word that His Holy Spirit uses to speak to our hearts. Our understanding and retention of what the Holy Spirit speaks to us, depends greatly on the delight we find in learning His language. Do you wonder why some people seem to understand and retain His Word so much better than others? What does your time in His Word look like? Has it become a chore, a time of frustration or drudgery, just another item on your to-do list? Do you often say with a sigh... I need to do my Bible study? Or do you look forward with eagerness to your time with the Holy Spirit as He teaches you His language? Do you delight in the law of the Lord, and meditate on it day and night? I pray that each of us will draw closer and closer to our Lord as we delight in learning His language and that His language becomes so deeply written on our hearts that our conversations with the Lord become simple, automatic, and filled with more delight.

Blessed

Favorite Fabulous Frivolities

Now say that ten times real fast. haha! This blog post is Just for the fun of it. I hope you enjoy reading as I share some of my favorite splurges with you... unnecessay material items... that I'm SO grateful for! They're just things.... that I could certainly live without if I needed to. But I'm thankful for the blessing of these top ten fabulous frivolities....

1. My camera...
Because I love photography! And I think it's awesome to have memories saved in the form of photos. And without which, all of my pictures would turn out small and grainy like this one because they were taken with my #2...

2. My Blackberry...
3. My laptop...
What was life like before such incredible technology? I love email, texting, facebook, blogging, photoshop, and even a place for all of my homeschool research, records and planning. Oh, and an occasional game or two.

4. My make-up...
Yes, it's just vanity.

5. My hearing aids...
6. My glasses...
They keep me from focusing too long on vanity. Because of a hereditary nerve deafness, I started losing my hearing in my late teens and have been wearing hearing aids for over 10 years now. I cried the first time I put them in... because I was so overjoyed by all of the sounds I was hearing that I had nearly forgotten about. These material items are truly some of the greatest blessings I own! The glasses are a new blessing. I was wondering what all the headaches were about... turns out I'm just getting old. haha! (No offense to my fellow four-eyes!)

7. My Kitchen Aid mixer...
My $70.00 bargain! I use this mixer a lot! I just hope it lasts me a long time, because I don't think I'll be fortunate enough to find such a deal on the next one!

8. My coffee...
With french vanilla cream please. My extra flavorful, totally self-indulgent morning blessing. Mmmmmm!

9. My warm, comfy quilt....
Which I wrap up in every morning as I sip my #8 and spend time with the Lord in His Word. My sister sewed this quilt for me for Christmas several years ago. Thank you Shawna!!

10. Good books...
Because I love to read! Click on the photo to enlarge it if you'd like to see some of the titles... I recommend them all!

Sometimes we get so caught up in the materialistic world that we live in... and we become so accustomed to our comforts.... that we come to expect them. We forget what a blessing these things are! Today I am feeling blessed, and remembering to be thankful, and to hold onto each of them with an open hand... because they are just things. I hope that each of you are blessed with a few favorite fabulous frivolities!!

Our Christmas/ New Year letter to all of our friends and family...

Life is a Journey

As I sit and reflect on the past year, I can’t help but giggle at the following words I wrote in our blog as 2009 began…. “I pray that in the whirlwind you all had time to sit at our Father's feet and spend time basking in His glorious presence! I pray that the rush rush of the "season" was not able to distract you from the wonderful purpose of our celebration. The birth of our amazing savior!! And I pray that 2009 finds all of us walking humbly at His side, ready and willing to go wherever He takes us this year!! What amazing journeys He has planned for each and every one of us...” I didn’t fully know the journeys He had in store for my own family through 2009. The Lord has taken us to new and amazing places this year, both physically and spiritually, and we’ve learned that a willing heart is a blessed heart!

Our journey…. Back to school for Adam as he works toward his MBA, another year of homeschooling, football, water polo, many good books, the third of our children baptized, new kids, new home, new church, new friends, walking with the Lord… We are blessed beyond measure!

This year our journey also took us to Ethiopia and back, bringing home two incredible blessings! Teddy (Tedrowos) and Endy (Endrias) joined our family through the gift of adoption! We now understand a little better, a part of Our Heavenly Father’s love… Just as our love for our adopted boys has grown in our hearts and they have become a part of us, so our Heavenly Father loves all of us! “For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will- to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves.” ~Ephesians 1:4-6 “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! …” ~1 John 3:1

This year’s journey has also brought us to a new home in Texas…unexpectedly. “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” ~Proverbs 19:21 We have seen His purposes unfolding and we are so grateful! His purposes are always for our spiritual growth and spiritual prosperity. “From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.” ~Acts 17:26 & 27 We are also learning more and more the joy and peace that is found in a life surrendered, out of trust, to His will, and we are learning to surrender fully and walk in His love.. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” ~Romans 15:13 “And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.” ~Romans 5:5

As we move into 2010 with our family full of boys, ages 5, 6, 11, 12, and 15, we are looking forward with eager anticipation to see where He will lead us. And we pray also for each of you… that in life’s whirlwinds, you will make time to sit at the Father’s feet and bask in His glorious presence, that the rush rush of the season was not able to distract you from the wonderful purpose of our celebration; The birth of our amazing savior!! And we pray that 2010 finds ALL of us walking humbly at His side, ready and willing to go WHEREVER He takes us this year!! What amazing journeys He has planned for each and every one of us…

May God bless you with His presence, and may you find joy and peace as you trust in Him, in 2010 and always!

With much love,
The Pelzl Family; Adam, Stacy, Kaleb, Nate, Nick, Teddy and Endy

Nick's Birthday!

Yesterday, New Year's Eve, was also Nick's birthday! Today he got to celebrate with some friends and his brothers. It was a quiet, stay at home kind of party this year, but I think they had a fun time. It was all about his favorite fun... Football!
Nick follows in his dad's footsteps as a Steeler's fan.

Playing some football was the birthday fun of his choosing.

Can't believe he's already 11!
